Understanding the Email Warm-Up Process

Email warm-up is a critical process for ensuring the long-term success of your email campaigns. It involves gradually increasing the volume of emails sent from a new domain or mailbox to build a positive sender reputation and improve deliverability. Below, we address common questions and concerns about the email warm-up process.

Why is the initial sending volume Low?

When starting the email warm-up process, it is normal to see very low sending volumes, especially during the first week. This is intentional and designed to protect your domain's reputation. For newly registered domains, it is recommended to avoid sending emails (including warm-up emails) or to keep the volume minimal for the first 1–2 weeks. This cautious approach helps prevent any negative impact on your domain reputation. Over time, the sending volume will gradually increase as part of the planned warm-up schedule.

Gradual Ramp-Up Process

The email warm-up process starts with a very small number of emails sent each day and gradually increases the volume over time. This gradual ramp-up is essential for protecting your sender reputation and ensuring high deliverability rates. Even if you set a higher daily limit, the system will intentionally limit the number of emails sent during the early stages. As the warm-up progresses, the daily send count will incrementally increase until it reaches the target volume.

It's best to leave the warm-up settings with the default values set in Woodpecker.

Common Concerns and Reassurances

  • Lack of Replies: During the early stages of the warm-up process, it is normal to receive few or no replies to your emails. This is expected and does not indicate an issue with your campaign.

  • Low Initial Activity: The low initial activity is a deliberate part of the warm-up strategy to ensure long-term success. There is no need for concern, as this behavior is aligned with best practices for email warm-up.

By understanding and following the email warm-up process, you can build a strong sender reputation and improve the effectiveness of your email campaigns over time. If you have further questions or concerns, consult the Woodpecker support team for assistance.
